Steve Mason Interview

A few weeks ago, Steve Mason, our main resident wrestler,  was interviewed on "Los chicos en el vestuario", a blog dedicated to informing about various production companies and their respective actors. You can take a look if you want to see Steve's beginnings in the world of wrestling, as some information of interest such as the origin of his stage name. If you are Spanish speaker, we leave you the direct link, in Spanish, although we will reproduce it literally in English.

Los chicos del vestuario: entrevista a Steve Mason

"Steve Manson is an easygoing fighter who sometimes takes a beating for challenging or pouting the wrong opponent"

Since he was little he dreamed of being one of the fighters he saw on television or in his video games, although he had to wait until he was 23 years old to start in the world of wrestling, but he was "very clumsy" and he always was beated. His stage name, Steve Manson, was taken from the main character of a PC game, but he never thought that he would become a famous fighter, achieving with the production company Hunkwrestling to dedicate himself to what he likes the most and without leaving Spain.

Behind Steve Manson is Jon, a 32-year-old boy, born in the Basque Country, Bilbao. Graduated in Journalism, his work as a flight attendant allowed him to start having contact with the first fighting production companies. In addition, he loves video games and music, having his own heavy metal group in Bilbao, with whom he came to be giving gigs for three years. But he left it because of a change of residence and because, as he tells us, "it was not a very good combination to fight to break my hand and the fingers with which I was going to play my instrument later."

How would you introduce Steve Manson?

The story is really funny, since the choice of my stage name was not chosen with the intention of reaching a mass audience, but as the typical pseudonym that you use when registering on any website. The name came from a very old PC video game called "Harvester", whose protagonist was called that, and I felt identified with him given his family situation. My character, Steve, did not start with a defined line unlike other fighters, since he merely engaged me in fighting without saying a word in the videos. But due to my experience with many websites, I have seen that my character needed a little more life and development, since the other fighters were very charismatic and I needed to be liked by the public in some way, not just fight well. So I started to take the Steve Mason line as a bit hesitant, but without being entirely arrogant, since sometimes he takes a beating for challenging or pouting the wrong opponent.

What is the moment when you discover that you like wrestling? What prompted you to practice it?

Since I was a child, I watched wrestling on television, whether it was American or Japanese. And I also loved to play video games, like the Tekken saga, and I was excited to become one of them. In the end I dared quite late, no less than at my 23 years old. I started with private fights, but it was very clumsy and they always beat me, so I decided to try Brazilian Jiujitsu, and I continue to practice it to this day. I graduated last Christmas to the purple belt! I can say that I have evolved a lot since then until today.

Did you fight a lot as a child with other children?

The truth is that I was quite taciturn, shy and withdrawn. I was also fearful, and even preferred to play with the girls most of the time, since they only played soccer in the yard. Therefore, I did not like fights either, quite the opposite of what I am today.

Before the erotic component came into play, had you felt morbid fighting with another man as a competitive sport?

Really yes, in most of my workouts almost all of the partners are straight. I have never really had problems with having erections in public and I always have my mind very focused on the fight, but it is true that once I am away from home, remembering the fight with your partner or watching it on video, if it has been recorded, yes that is morbid.

"In the erotic fight the public demands things to recreate their fantasies in the most faithful way possible"

And how is that step from competitive wrestling to erotic wrestling for audiovisual productions or events? How does it all come about?

Really since my adolescence I saw photos of erotic fight producers, like BGeast, and it is true that it made me morbid, but I was also excited to be one of those fighters and have my own audience. The fact is that most of the production companies were in the United States and at that time I had no options to travel there. One day, in a social network, an individual contacted me to fight against another boy in a production, it would be a small event and the video would be uploaded to a website that they would create for me. The event was fun, there was a bit of everything, from gay men who were morbid to see us fight, to some women who brought their young children to see us. It could be said that it was something ambiguous and for all audiences. In the end, the page that they created for me and my rival was a complete disaster, they took a long time and it slowed down a lot, not to mention that it was hardly visited by anyone given its horrible design. Two years later I went to live in Manchester for labor issues and there I had contact with the first formally established foreign struggle producer. I made several videos with them, it was a very good experience, but they had no erotic component, it was strictly fighting. Later Hunkswrestling came up and they offered me to fight for them, and I have also made videos for American production companies, since I frequented the USA a lot due to my work.

What is the main difference between competitive fighting and erotic fighting, that you fight almost naked and you touch each other in intimate areas?

In competition I focus exclusively on beating my rival, and it is as if I become asexual no matter how attractive my opponent is. In erotic wrestling, the public usually demands package grabs, dirty blows, domination, to recreate their fantasies in the most faithful way possible. That is, if the public wants me to lose, I will lose and I will be subdued, even if I have more technique or strength to beat my rival, if I wanted to.

Can we ask you about your sexual tendency or, more directly, if men put you?

Yes, I like men, but generally those who are related to the sports world.

Do you consider yourself more of a wrestler or an actor, let's say, erotic, when you record one of these productions?

I consider myself a fighter, although I also have to act many times. The reason is that, sometimes, my rival does not have notions of fighting and I usually take care of teaching him some basic movements. In case you have some knowledge, the combat is usually more competitive, but with a touch of acting (trashtalk, humiliation, talking ...). In this world, not so many people have the technique to develop a real combat, that's why it would fall more into the category of fighter.

What requirements must a person have to participate in competitive or erotic fights?

There really is no need for any specific requirement as long as you make him want to fight and learn, and be respectful with the opponent, essential. It is true that producers tend to have their preferences when it comes to hiring boys: some prefer muscled or bodybuilders, others prefer them to be 'twinks' or youngsters, others who know how to fight, or who are exclusive (who have never participated in other production companies fighting). And some do not usually have specific requirements.

"I would not like to fight naked for the discomfort of having my genitals hanging and unprotected in such dynamic movements"

I guess that's what everyone asks ... But are erections during fighting real?

They really are. I, as I said, never have them since I am very concentrated, but it is not a surprise to me that my rival has a spontaneous erection.

How do you like to fight more in underwear, sportswear or those turbo swimsuits?

I like it a lot more in wrestling jumpsuits (singlet) or underwear, even wrestling boots like pro-wrestling wrestlers.

Would you like to fight naked, without any clothes, hand to hand?

The truth is, no. Apart from the discomfort of having the genitals hanging and unprotected in such dynamic movements, I am very much in favor of the saying: "it is sexier to insinuate than to show".

Any partner-s with whom you especially like to fight in these productions?

I really like John Rodriguez a lot, that many people will already know from other productions. He is a very good working professional and his body is impressive.

Where do you think your physical attractiveness resides?

It's really hard to stand out in these productions, so I try to specialize in fighting and skills, in addition to acting. It is true that there are many imposing guys, and it is difficult to stand out if for example I have an opponent with a sculpted physique. Even so, I try to work a lot on my physical form as well. Also, many fans have told me that they love my facial expressions and how I sell the pain when I get caught in a hold.

"My followers love how I sell the pain when they catch me in a hold"

If we saw you naked in a changing room, where would we look at you?

Back and thighs!

Has any recording of a scene ended in a sex party when the cameras have been turned off?

Not that I know! Keep in mind that guys of all kinds of sexual orientation come to the recording, so it's difficult for something to come up spontaneously.

Would you like the erotic fight scenes to go one step further? Does the porn content catch your attention?

I really don't feel ready to take that step. I like porn to watch in private, but I think I would not be prepared to perform explicit sexual acts on camera or in public.

What could you tell us about Hunkswrestling and your experience with this first Spanish erotic wrestling production company?

I started in the project from the beginning, when some friends got together. The beginning was humble and not easy, only four fighters, but with desire and enthusiasm to create something good and different. The videos were exclusively competitive, with little or no erotic component. It was difficult since most of the fighters lived outside of Spain and the future uncertain, really.

Also, given my job, there was a time when I also had to live outside of Spain. But over time Hunkswrestling evolved as people began to get to know us. I started to gain popularity, both on Hunkswrestling and on other websites, but it started to have a more defined trajectory. Now we fighters had a personality, we didn't just dedicate ourselves to fighting. They started calling me a lot to do fights, since several foreign fighters who were on vacation in Barcelona were interested in making videos for the Spanish website. They put me every time against sexier boys and now they have started a casting to see fresher faces. I am sure that you will find many interested fighters, residents of Barcelona, and they also offered me to choreograph and teach technique to new boys who have no previous knowledge of martial arts. I also give private fighting classes outside the production company.

Besides wrestling, are there some sports that you think might also have an erotic component?

It doesn't really occur to me now, since I've never been a big fan of ball sports. Perhaps you could say the male artistic gymnastics, since the gymnasts really have a harmonious physique and very spit, they are the perfect ratio between muscles and flexibility.

"I am not prepared to perform explicit sexual actors in front of the cameras or in public ... The porn to be seen in private.

"My straight wrestling partners are very lighthearted when it comes to walking naked in the locker room and joking around"

With which current famous person, athlete or not, would you like to have one of these erotic fights?

I would love Aryx Quinn, a porn and fighting actor. I really followed the videos of him since he was a teenager and it was something I always wanted to do with him.

Do the changing rooms make you morbid? Have you experienced a morbid scene in one of them?

The truth is that they have their point, with my straight wrestling partners, they are always joking and are very casual when it comes to walking around naked and joking at the same time.

Would you like the costumes to have more prominence in one of these erotic wrestling productions? What do you propose?

It would really be interesting, since it leads to recreating a lot of fight scenes. Maybe it could be in the showers, after training with your partner, and they lock you against the wall with a wrestling hold.
